2.7 Maternal mortality ratio
Refers to deaths which are caused by complications of pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium,
within the period of 42 days after childbirth per 100,000 live births

2.8 Total dependency ratio
Refers to the ratio of the number of persons below the age of 15 years and the number of persons
aged 65 years and above to the number of persons aged 15 - 64 years.

2.9 Sex ratio
Refers to the number of males per 100 females

2.10 Life expectancy at birth
Refers to the expected average number of years a new born baby will live, assuming a fixed schedule
of age specific mortality rates

3. Special Medical Institutions

Refers to National Leprosy Control Centre (1), Institute of Respiratory Medicine (1), Rehabilitation Hospital
(1), Women & Children Hospital (1), National Cancer Institute (1) and Psychiatric Institutions (4)

4. Immunisation coverage

The calculation of coverage for some immunisation in this report uses two different denominators:
i. Live birth obtained from Departments of Statistics, Malaysia (DOSM);
ii. Live births collected based on the National Tuberculosis Information System Manual (Edition 2004), TBIS
