COVID-19 Hospitals

Among the earliest efforts taken
by the Ministry of Health was
restructuring of hospital services to
provide focused and effective clinical
care for COVID-19 cases and at
the same time maintaining delivery
of clinical services to non-Covid
patients especially those needing
emergency and semi-urgent care.
Hospitals admitting COVID-19 cases
were identified and established.
Majority of COVID-19 hospitals
were functioning as hybrid model
providing care for both COVID-19
and non-Covid cases. Hospital
Sungai Buloh was the first hospital

that provided services only for
COVID-19 cases especially during
the peak of the pandemic. New
admissions were diverted to nearby
hospital unless in emergency life-
threatening conditions while other
non-Covid services were shifted to
other hospitals within Selangor.

Over the course of the pandemic,
hospital services were swiftly
enhanced to meet both the
anticipated and emerging demands.
The initial hospitals treating
COVID-19 patients were increased
from 26 hospitals to 47 hospitals. To
further enhance hospital capacity,
National Leprosy Control Centre (PKKN) located adjacent to Hospital Sungai Buloh was activated as Low Risk Low Risk COVID-19 Quarantine &
COVID-19 Quarantine & Treatment Centres (PKRC) on 15 March 2020 Treatment Centres (PKRC) were
established as hospital extension
